New Career Pathways in Energy, IT, and Cybersecurity Added to My Colorado Journey

July 12, 2021 - The Colorado Workforce Development Council, in partnership with the Colorado Community College System, added career pathways in the energy industry to My Colorado Journey in June and refreshed the existing career pathways in IT and cybersecurity. The pathways were published in collaboration with industry and education partners to equip job seekers with the information needed to advance their career and education goals in these industries. Colorado’s Thriving Energy Industry

Colorado is an energy production leader, ranking in the top 10 states for oil and natural gas production. The new career pathways on My Colorado Journey aim to help more individuals join this robust industry, which currently includes about 150,000 workers. Five energy pathways are now featured on the platform. They include: 

  • Utilities generation
  • Utilities transmission and distribution
  • Renewables
  • Oil and gas production and operation
  • Oil and gas distribution

Each pathway features critical information about the related careers and occupations, including average salary and estimated job openings, education and training requirements, and ways to advance in the industry. These pathways will continue to be updated as the CWDC and TalentFOUND network partners work to implement HB21-1149

IT and Cybersecurity: High Demand Industries

Skilled IT and cybersecurity workers continue to be in high demand in Colorado. In June, these pathways were refreshed to ensure they are up-to-date and responsive to the needs of industry. The refresh process involved engaging with industry experts through forums and interviews to gather input and guidance on the pathway updates. Through this process, four new occupations were added to the IT pathways: data scientist, blockchain engineer, GIS tech, and web and digital interface designer. In the upcoming year, the CWDC career pathways team is working to develop new career pathways in transportation and refresh the existing advanced manufacturing pathways. These new and updated pathways will be published on My Colorado Journey in June 2022.
